The Medicine Wheel
JOURNEY INTO THE CIRCLE
|
The Medicine Wheel ceremony is a powerful shamanic transformational experience that will answer many questions about one’s life bringing you back into your center, to the place of calm and knowingness.
The Medicine Wheel is a large circle of rocks that represents the Circle of Life, All Life, not just us, humans. Just like the circle has no beginning and end, so does the Circle of Life. All Life goes in a circle – Life and Death, then coming back as Rebirth, then Life, Death and Rebirth again, and so on.
Each direction in the Medicine Wheel represents a different stage in our life and the Life of All There Is – the fish, the birds, the insects, the trees, the rocks, the 4 leggeds, the 2 leggeds, our world, the stars and the universes. We are all in the same circle.
Our own individual life circle is closely intermingled with the Circle of All There Is. So, yes, a Medicine Wheel is a circle of rocks that are usually placed somewhere in nature, away from noise, street lights, civilization and distractions. But, it is not a symbolic activity! It is indeed very real, and it will bring up many spiritual revelations for you.
|
This Native American Shamanic ceremony has been practiced by indigenous people over centuries. It is a powerful tool of self discovery, spiritual cleansing, healing, and positioning ourselves back in “our center”, our true self when life gets “out of hand”.
The Medicine Wheel ceremony takes us back into the Circle, asking us questions about our individual life, to honestly look at ourselves and contemplate:
How am I walking my life in the bigger concept? Am I following my heart in everything I do? Am I following my truth in my speech and actions? Am I being of service?
Many questions will be asked of you during your Medicine Wheel ceremony that you will need to look at and contemplate upon.
The ceremony is accompanied by the shamanic practice of drumming the earthy deep sounding drum, connecting us back into the heartbeat of the earth, our own heartbeat and the heartbeat of All There Is. At that moment you will be right there, connected to everything heart to heart, experiencing a clear conscious knowingness of your rightful place in the big Circle of All There Is. You will connect to your spirit and the spirit of the All as a natural state of being. With this truth in you, I invite you to enter the Circle, in your mind and your heart, being mindful that you are entering sacred ground. I invite you to walk around this circle, slowly, very slowly, as you meditate and think about the Big Circle, and your place within it. Your life will be seen as a tapestry spread out clearly in front of you like a flying eagle sees all movement below.
Contemplate on your life. Am I walking it fully aware and mindful of my surroundings? Am I being gentle and kind as I walk? If I am not walking In Beauty, what can I do, right now, to change that?
This is a very powerful and life transforming ceremony for you. The teaching will stay with you for some time, and hopefully for many, many moons to come. There is no time limit to the Medicine Wheel ceremony. It is your Wheel, your journey. We just take you there and assist. You will walk it for as long as it will take you to get back into your center, the place of calm and peace where all the answers are clear and life is good (again)!

Vortex Tour and Meditation
|
Thousands of people flock into Sedona yearly for the healing aspects of its Vortexes. In fact, about 65% of all Sedona visitors come here to experience the Vortex energies.
We will try to answer all your questions about Sedona’s vortexes on this page such as:
What is a Vortex? Why does Sedona have all these “Vortexes”? What can one experience at a Vortex? What are the names of the major and minor Vortexes? How can I find the vortexes? How large is a vortex area?
What is a vortex?
First, let us look at the scientific explanation of a Vortex, followed by the spiritual aspects of it.
Anything that swirls in a circle like motion is a vortex. A tornado is a vortex. Water running down the sink in a circle motion is a vortex. Some vortexes swirl clockwise and some counterclockwise.
The Sedona vortexes are created by electromagnetic fields and ley lines that comverge in 4 different areas of Sedona, in a somewhat triangle/square formation. Some of the vortexes are electrically charged while some have stronger magnetic fields. Depending on their charge, each vortex emanates a different energy with different effects and vibration. There are major and minor vortexes. Since the major vortexes are positioned all around Sedona, and the minor vortexes are within that area the entire city of Sedona is considered to be a very large vortex.
How is a vortex created:
The comversion of electromagnetic fields and ley lines creates a vortex, which is like a very large column of fast spinning electromagnetic field that goes from the earth in a vortex-like motion up to the sky. The wall of this very fast spinning column blocks out all interferences we have in the air such as electric waves, radio waves, TV, phone and other waves that buzz around us constantly. This blocking out of all interferences creates the purest air within the column (the vortex) with no outside interferences. This creates an environment that is very condusive to meditation and healing. The mind clears of chatter and clutter faster than usual, calm and inner peace is achieved faster allowing the body and mind to totally relax, allowing for healing of mind, body and spirit to gradually unfold. Some people say that prayers are heard and answered faster at a vortex. It is not so much that prayers are heard and answered faster. But since the mind clears and inner peace is achieved, prayers are more focused and clear, manifesting in a shorter time.
Why in Sedona?
The red rocks are iron-ixoide with underground water, and therefore there is a high charge of electro-magnetic energy that can be found here. The comversion of the ley lines with the electro-magnetic fields of the red rocks create the vortex phenomena.
What are the names of the 4 major Sedona Vortexes?
Bell Rock, on Highway 179, in the Village of Oak Creek
Airport Vortex, located in West Sedona, on Airport Road.
Cathedral Rock, located off Highway 179, accessible also
from Red Rock Crossing on the west side of Cathedral Rock
Boynton Canyon, located in West Sedona, at 7 Canyons, off Dry Creek Road.
The 4 major vortexes and the ley lines intersect each other to create minor vortexes that can be found all around Sedona. In fact, you can find your own vortex, your sacred power place. Allow your intuition to guide you. You will find it.
What can one expect to experience in a Vortex?
More on this subject can be found in the second half of “How is a vortex created”.
There are as many experiences in a vortex as there are people in our world. There is not one way of experiencing a vortex. Every person experiences the energies and healing aspects of a vortex in a different way, based on each person’s present state of mind, the spiritual consciousness, the present and past life experiences, and more.
We will never tell our clients what to experience at a vortex. Not because we don’t know, but because if we tell you that, we would be robbing you of your own experiences. You will be focused on trying to experience what others do, distracting you from your own healing. That is the contrary to a vortex experience. This is your personal journey, the time for your personal healing and your precious personal time. It is all about you, not even about your families and friends. This is your personal healing. You have to be in harmony with yourself first to be able to give to others.
One thing is for sure. You will feel a sense of peace and joy at a vortex IF you take your time there. Running from one vortex to another will keep you in your head and rob you of the experience. When you get to a vortex area just sit there for some time, take your time, all the time you need! Lie down, allow your back to get very heavy, feel the warm earth under you, enjoy the warmth of the sun on your body, feel the gentle wind caressing your face, listen to the birds around you, and just be!! You may also fall asleep if you find yourself dozing off. Do not try to force anything. Just let go of all thoughts and enjoy this very special moment. I know you will know what a vortex is – in your own way. Your own experience is all that matters, nothing else.
Once you are at peace, and your mind is calm, you may start doing your meditation, contemplation or other modalities that help you get in touch with yourself. Even if you do not know how to meditate you will feel the healing aspects of Sedona’s vortexes if you take your time, as mentioned. Take off your watch, turn off your cell phone. Time does not exist here, in these hours. You may not know how long you have been there. It may be 10 seconds or it may be 10 hours. You will know when you are ready. Your eyes will sparkle, colors around you will appear brighter. Again, please do not expect all this to happen to you. Just allow, and do not expect anything. Whatever you will feel, is just right for you, your own well being. Whatever you will experience is just perfect. That’s what your soul gave you, as a gift.
Enjoy your journey!
One more thing! Let go!
Just let go. Smile with a big smile! Feel the joy of being alive! Allow yourself to be a child today. Have fun on the red rocks! Being happy is the most important part of spirituality. Laugh, be careless like a child and be…just be happy, for no reason at all! Just for today, just for now. This moment is where past, present and future come together.
Give thanks to Creator for this wonderful day!
This is the gift of a Vortex, the gift of Sedona to you.
How can I find the Vortexes?
Most Sedona maps will feature the vortex locations. Hotel staff will be glad to point you out to the nearest vortex site. See below the directions to vortex sites.
As a side note: Please remember that the entire area of Sedona is a vortex. Every person resonates to a different kind of energy. There are special, ‘power places’ in and all around Sedona. We invite you to take your time, explore some of the many hiking trails in Sedona and find your own power place, that spot which you most resonate with, the one spot where you feel specially safe, at peace, content and happy. It can be under a tree, a special rock, by a wash, in a cave. Stay at that spot and come back to it as often as you feel drawn to it. This may be your Sedona-healing place! Only you can know.
Directions:
Bell Rock:
Driving north on Highway 179 (coming from I-17), you will pass the Village of Oak Creek. Passing the 2nd roundabout (Circle K on your right), you will see a very large Pyramid like rock formation. That’s Bell Rock.
Coming from Sedona on 179, just before you get to the Village of Oak Creek.
There are 2 parking areas. One on the south side and one on the north side of Bell Rock. The one on the north side is smaller. Take some time to walk on the well marked trails or sit under a majestic Juniper Tree and relax in its shade. The vortex is felt all around but is strongest on Bell Rock itself.
Cathedral Rock:
Coming from I-17 and 179, make a left at the roundabout to Back O’ Beyond Road.
Coming from Sedona, make a right on Back O’Beyond Road at the roundabout.
Drive 0.6 miles. Parking lot is on your left.
Airport Vortex:
In Sedona, going south on SR 89A towards West Sedona, make a left on the first traffic light onto Airport Road. The small parking lot for Airport Vortex is 0.5 miles on your left.
Boynton Canyon:
From 89A in West Sedona make a right at the traffic light onto Dry Creek Road (pass Safeway, Giant Gas Station). Drive on Dry Creek Road for 2.9 miles until it will come to a T. Turn left at the T, follow road up to Stop Sign. Make a right at Stop Sign. Parking lot is on your right.
How large is a vortex area?
The vortex energies can be felt miles away depending on one’s sensitivity and the strength of the specific vortex. However, the strongest energies are located within a radius of a few hundred yards.
